RANT TIME: James Holmes' 'Holmies'

Okay, so today I was on Facebook and I came across this article and I still feel physically ill from it all. Just a heads up, if you call yourself a 'Holmie' you better not read this article because I am about to rant the hell out of this.

In case you've been living under a rock for the past two or so weeks, James Holmes is the guy who allegedly shot and killed 12 people in Aurora, Colorado, wounding 58 others at a midnight showing of The Dark Night Rises. This guy walked into a theatre and attacked people (a three month old was one of the 58 wounded, might I add) who had done nothing to him. I'm not saying that if someone does something to you it justifies pulling shit like this, I'm just throwing it out there to show the senselessness of it all.

Now, James Holmes' defense is that he's mentally ill... what else is new? Most people these days use mental illness as an excuse for doing things they shouldn't, which is a whole different problem that I have. Some of the 'Holmies' have been quoted as using his mental illness as their reason for supporting him.

Excuse me... what the fuck is wrong with you people? This guy ruined the lives of these people, they are never going to be the same. It doesn't matter if he's mentally ill or not, you shouldn't be supporting him!

Speaking as someone who IS mentally ill, I would like to say that being sick is no excuse for doing something as horrific as this. I was bullied in school, lived through abuse for most of my life and I live with being bipolar every single day, so I am not just shooting my mouth off here.

One in every four people suffer from a mental health problem at some point in their lives, but do you see them going out and killing people for no reason whatsoever? No.

Whether James Holmes was in the right mental state or not it doesn't excuse what he did. He ended and ruined peoples lives forever and now he's trying to get off with a lighter punishment by using mental illness as an excuse. I don't care if you were in your right mind or not, you should never think that doing something like that is okay.

And as for you people who are making Tumblr's and whatnot SUPPORTING him, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You make me sick.
